And just what does some of the “wine speak” descriptors mean. Words like “acidic, balance, bouquet, corked, earthy, green, herbaceous, hollow, oaky, oxidized, silky, spicy, steely, stemmy, supple and tannic” are tossed around often but what do they really mean and are they good or bad. We will have a knowledgeable speaker explain these characteristics and we will do some blind deductive wine tasting that have these characteristics that may help identify the varietal and region a wine may have come from. Both “new world” and “old world” red and white varietals will be used for our tasting. Catered food will be from the Kimmer Kitchen and some popular Portland kitchens. We seem to have a hobby of buying and collecting cookbooks and recipes and since we will be in NW Portland for this event, we decided to do a Portland inspired menu from published recipes from some of our favorite Portland restaurants. ~ MENU ~ Mama Leone’s Chicken Soup from Elephant’s Deli Piquillos Rellenos con Chimichurri Shitake Mushroom and Truffle Rissotto Charred Leek Puree over Smoked Beef Roasted Cauliflower with Spicy Golden Raisin Vinagrette Pumpkin Tarts Chouquettes from St. Honore’ Bakery |
