Back by popular demand we are repeating the Riedel wine glass education event for those of you who missed our first presentation and are still pondering the question “Does the right glass really make that much of a difference?”  or maybe you know it does but want to prove it to others by learning how the Riedel representative’s make their argument.  We are fortunate to have the owner of the Uptown Billiards Club, Ken Lewis, a former Riedel sales representative for twelve years, put on this presentation for us.

Riedel makes both “varietal specific” glasses for wine enthusiasts and “wine friendly” glasses for more casual wine drinkers.  We will be focusing on “varietal specific” glasses. As their brochure explains “a grape varietal specific Riedel glass is a wine tool – “the key to wine” and is designed to unlock the most elusive characteristics of a wine. “ “One glass is not ideal for all styles of wine; a wine’s bouquet, taste, balance and finish are all affected by the share of the glass it is consumed from.  Shape does matter for maximum intensity and total enjoyment of wine.”

We have a booked a private room at Uptown Billiard Club for our wine glass event.  It is halfway between Burnside and Everett on the east side of 23rd Avenue.  There is no big sign but look for the black awning over a black door that opens to their stairs.

The presentation will include five different wines in five different glasses and an assortment of tasty appetizers to accompany the wines.  The wine varietals and appropriate glass will include a riesling, a chardonnay, a sauvignon Blanc, a pinot noir and a cabernet sauvignon.

Appetizers to include:
•    Artisanal Cheese Platter of a variety of local and imported cheeses
•    Hummus Platter of three house-made flavors, served with toasted pita, feta, onions, tomato and cucumber
•    Indonesian Chicken Skewers with peanut sauce (non-peanut sauce also available)
•    Ginger Beef Skewers with Painted Hills beef in a ginger soy sauce with sticky rice
•    Portobello Mushroom Crostini with fresh thyme and smoked gouda
